State Requirement

Virginia welcomes all Virginia Professional Engineers to our state licensing renewal information page. It is our principal goal, as is the board’s requirement, to provide meaningful continuing education activities that will enhance the knowledge, skill and expertise of the licensee’s, within his / her chosen field of practice. In addition to providing valuable licensure renewal information in a summarized format, has now incorporated “recommended courses” that we believe will further enhance the user’s interest in current topics and events.

Summary License renewal requirement
PDH / CE Hours Required: 16 PDH hours biennially
Renewal deadline: Biennially, based on the last day of the month in which the original license was issued or reinstated.
State Approval: The Virginia Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects does not pre-approve providers or specific courses. Course selection is determined by the engineer; however, course material must meet the requirements of the Virginia Board of Professional Engineers.
Course Objective: PDH can be technical or engineering content based; however, they must posses an underlying objective to expand the skills and knowledge relevant to the licensee’s chosen field of practice. Courses involving ethics, business practices and project management are also qualified to fulfill licenses renewal requirement.
PDH / CE Carryover: PDH cannot be carried forward into the next renewal period.
Online Courses: Accepted. No limit on number of PDH that can be achieved through online continuing education.
