State Requirement

Maryland welcomes all Maryland Professional Engineers to our state licensing renewal information page. It is our principal goal, as is the board’s requirement, to provide meaningful continuing education activities that will enhance the knowledge, skill and expertise of the licensee’s, within his / her chosen field of practice. In addition to providing valuable licensure renewal information in a summarized format, has now incorporated “recommended courses” that we believe will further enhance the user’s interest in current topics and events.

Summary License renewal requirement
PDH / CE Hours Required:

24 PDH hours biennially (including, 1PDH in professional ethics)

A minimum of 18 PDH units in Category A programs, including a minimum of 1 PDH unit in content areas related to the standards of practice or care, laws and regulations applicable to the practice of engineering in Maryland, or professional engineering ethics; and a maximum of 6 PDH units in Category B programs.

Renewal deadline: Biennially.
State Approval:
The Maryland Board of Professional Engineers does pre-approve providers of continuing education courses. Course selection is determined by the engineer; however, course selection must meet the requirements of the Maryland Board of Professional Engineers.
Professional Online Educators dba. is an approved provider in the state of Maryland. 
Course Objective: Courses must be relevant to the practice of engineering and may include technical, ethical, or managerial content. PDH must have a clear purpose and objective for each activity which will maintain, improve, or expand skills and knowledge obtained prior to initial licensure or to develop new and relevant skills and knowledge.
PDH / CE Carryover: A maximum of 12 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.
Online Courses: Accepted. No limit on number of PDH that can be achieved through online continuing education.
